Dr. Petersen recommends nitrous oxide (a.k.a. Laughing gas) to those patients who may need a little help to feel more at ease while at the dentist. Nitrous oxide is a gas that is mixed with Oxygen (O2) and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. The nitrous helps decrease anxiety making you feel more at ease while you are here with us. You breathe normally through your nose, and within a few short minutes you will start to feel the effects of the nitrous oxide. It’s common to feel like youre floating and some tingling in your arms and legs is normal. Some people say their arms and legs feel heavy.

Request an Appointment

Nitrous oxide is not intended to put you to sleep or sedate you. You will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the dentist may have, and the effects of wear off within 5-10 minutes. Driving and going back to work/school right after your appointment is just fine. If you are interested in using Nitrous oxide at your next visit ask any of the staff here at Tyson Petersen DDS if it would be a good option for you! Nitrous oxide cannot be used if you are pregnant.
