FAQs

How often do I need a check-up and cleaning?

An exam and cleaning once every 6 months is a great way to prevent and treat problems while they are small. We also perform an oral cancer screening and look for oral diseases.

How often should I brush my teeth?

The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth twice a day, morning and night for two minutes using a fluoride toothpaste. We recommend using a toothbrush that has soft bristles. Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to remove plaque.

Whitening solutions come in gel form to keep it in on the tooth surface and avoid having it all wash away. The whitening gel is typically applied first to a mouthguard, tray or on a plastic strip. These are then placed in the mouth for 30-60 minutes. Some low concentration gels can be used overnight.  Usage regimens vary based on patient needs and the whitening system used.

How often should I replace my toothbrush?

Replace your toothbrush every three to four months or more often if the bristles become frayed. Toothbrushes also harbor bacteria and it’s a good idea to replace them often.

Are x-ray’s safe?

The amount of radiation you are exposed to from dental x-rays is less than the amount you are exposed to from your day to day life. We use our best judgment and won’t take x-rays that are un-necessary. Normally we take a series of x-rays once per year that shows us many things such as decay, bone health, tooth eruption and much more.

What are your payment plans?

We understand that finances can get in the way of getting your dental treatment done. We have a 3 or 6 month payment plan with little to no interest. We accept most dental insurance and try to let you know what your out of pocket expense will be before treatment. We do our best to assist you in getting the dental care you need. We offer a 10% discount if you don’t have insurance and pay at the time of service. If you need financing longer than 6 months, we also offer financing through Mountain America Credit Union. Call our office if you have questions or would like to get set up on a payment plan.

I’m scared of the dentist – what are my options?

Your comfort is our first concern. If fear is standing in your way to get your dental treatment done, we have a few options to help ease your anxiety. We have the nitrous oxide or laughing gas that helps most people.  Dr. Petersen is also trained and certified in oral and IV sedation. This is a great option and most patients are able to sleep through their appointment and don’t remember being here. Call our office if you have questions, we are here to help!
